Cyber Acoustics CA 4400 computer speakers review

The Cyber Acoustics CA 4400 are 30 watt surround sounds speakers. I bought these speakers in mid February for $30 at Buy.com and I am pretty happy with them. I believe they are still available for about that price, with free shipping at the Buy.com website. These speakers provide a powerful, high quality sound, and have no problems for the most part.

Features

Loudness: 30 Watts

I have not taken electronics yet, but as far as I know, the more watts, the louder the sound, and 30 watts is a rather high wattage for its price range. Of course you would not get sound as loud as at rock concerts :D but for an average house they are more than loud enough. I can hear them well from my other room (across 2 walls and a kitchen). I usually listen to them at 50-75%. The back (surround) speakers are not too loud though. Then again they are only used for surround noises :D.

Sound Quality

The sound quality definitely beats that of the speakers which came with my computer. I can hear a full frequency of sounds

Controls

These speakers have very good onboard controls. The woofer has a big on/off switch, which it really easy to find if you are feeling around for it (if you put your speakers high up). The front speaker also has a volume control for both main and surrounds speakers. I greatly compliment Cyber Acoustics on their control layout.

Cables and Ports

The cables, both going to the speakers and to the computer are very long. The cables for the surround speakers stretch across my living room (about 10 feet) with still cable left over. The speakers are connected through sound ports similar to that found on televisions and some radios with external speakers (composite RWY). I suppose you can even connect your own external speaker/tv if you want, though I have not tried. The woofer connects to the computer with 2 regular audio cables.

Comparisons

I tested these speakers with a whole range of media. When comparing the quality of compressed (XVid) and DVD Video, the difference was clearly visible, even though even the XVid one sounded pretty well too. MP3s and CDs sound rather well too. Game audio sounds good too. When comparing the sound quality of these speakers with my previous ones, headphones, and an earpiece, these speakers were clearly the winners.

Likes and Dislikes

Likes

This is an excellent quartet of speakers for the price. The loudness and sound quality are wonderful. The button layout is extremely convenient, and the cables are nice and long. Potentially this system has the potential to connect more speakers or a television.

Dislikes

I have no major complaints against these speakers. The only complaint I had was that a few times before, the volume fluctuated on its own (normal, then loud for a few seconds, then normal again). I am not sure what was causing this to happen, but lately it has not been happening at all.
