Maxtor One Touch 750GB Portable Hard Disk Drive review

The Maxtor One Touch 750GB Portable Hard Disk Drive is as the name suggests a portable external hard drive which is capable of holding up to 750 GB of data, such as music files, videos and automated word processed documents.

The company Maxtor is a part of the Seagate company who are amongst the most well known and admired companies when Hard Drives are concerned.

The hard drive is fairly cheap to purchase, prices range from £80-£100 and warranty is given with all products from Maxtor.

The HDD gets power through a plug which has interlockable plug adapters to allow for use in different countries, whilst the USB cable is used to connect the HDD to the computer for use.

The product comes with CMS (Contents Management Software) software included for managing and organizing the content of the HDD so that it is efficient and runs as fast as possible.

Other features of the product include as already mentioned a USB connection, a plug with adapters, as well as the ability to be used on both PCs and Macs and both Windows and Apple Operating Systems.

The warranty which was mentioned above runs for 5 years from the date of purchase and it allows for a full refund to be claimed if the problem is found not to be a result of your own misdoings.

The appearance of the hard drive at first glance is of a big black box with two wires coming off but the shape of the product allows for easy movement around the computer as well as the ability to be placed in areas near the computers, such as next to the Monitor and speakers which were originally empty but which don't require to be for the computer to function.

The button at the front of the hard drive is used to launch the content management software which is used to keep the hard drive organized, quick and efficient. The button is plastic and it has a white LED behind so that users are able to see when there is power without actually having to load up the software and the hard drive fully.

The transfer speed which the hard drive is capable of varies depending on which type of cable is being used in the USB port. If a FireWire cable is used then speeds of up to 400 Mbps are achievable fairly easily, whilst Hi-Speed USB cabling allows for transfer speeds of 480 Mbps which is faster and which are also achievable.

When looking at efficiency, ease of use, data capable of being transferred and speeds of data transfers. The efficiency is of a high level where data can be organized into folders easily and in seconds. The hard drive is very easy to use as very thorough and informative instructions are given with the product and they are also available online from the manufacturer's website.

The data speeds have been listed above whilst the types of media capable of being transferred is also above.
