Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 pc game review

Those who like games like Call of Duty, Crysis, Command and Conquer, or other first person shooter and tactical warfare-type will probably like Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. You (Bishop) and the team, Rainbow Six, have to end terrorist threats on the streets of Las Vegas. The game picks up and is very similar to the original, with a few tweaks here and there. I was of course dying to see how they picked up after the cliffhanger the first game ended with. This time we're left with a finale that leaves questions answered and a final conclusion.

One thing I liked is that the game offers a different take on the shooter game. Set in our very own Las Vegas, the stakes seem raised - this is set somewhere familiar, in our homeland, not some far off battlefield!

The game, originally a console game, still feels similar to the console, which detracts from the experience while playing on a PC. But, even at that, I found the ability to play on a PC in some ways more enjoyable than the console, but to each his own.

While it doesn't quite have the graphics of Call of Duty, I think everyone with a decent graphics card will be amazed at the textures and settings - even to the point of distraction.

As much as I did like this game, there were some things I didn't like about it.

One of the most distracting things about the game was the amount of advertising placed into the backgrounds. In my opinion, we see enough of that in our everyday lives, and we've paid for the game, so the fact that they are practically ramming it down our throats is disappointing and annoying.

The pace is fast and action-packed; almost too fast. Another thing I found to be a disappointment is that the game seems rather short. I recommend playing it in normal mode if you want to prolong and extend the experience - otherwise you'll find yourself pounding through it at a lightning pace and it is over much too soon.

Another downer to the game was the use of the same old annoying checkpoint system after deaths that the first game had. With as short as the game seems, having to redo sections of it only drags out the parts that are the least fun and makes dying a frustration.

But with all that said, I found that the game definitely offers a worthwhile experience. I'd have to say I might even like this one more than Call of Duty, but that's probably a personal preference because of the location where this game is set.

If you're into this style of game, I'd say this one will be a certain hit and a must have for the collection - most especially if you own or have played the original. Then again, I'm the kind of person who likes to have the sequels to movies/games. Which is something else I liked about this game - the fact that it is a sequel, not just the same game with a few updates. The storyline develops nicely. Overall, I'd give it a 4/5 stars.
