Everything from lights to mini robots can entertain your favorite geek. There seems to be an endless stream of little and not so little extras for us gadget loving geeks to choose from. These days there is a gadget for every geek and every gadget is aimed at a geek. But as much as we may love these things (and oh yes, if you only live with a geek we love them) sometimes it's just too much and yes, someone might need an intervention.
This is for you non geeks. Those of you who when some of your friends are gathered around a single monitor giggling and you don't get it or when you catch your IT department cackling like a horde of sugared up six year olds over a miniature remote control dinosaur and you don't get it. I understand, I used to be just like you. It's okay, I'm here to guide you into the strange and often brightly colored world of the toys that entertain geeks everywhere.
If you think I'm joking do a quick search for geek toys. Go ahead I dare you. What do you find?
Entire websites dedicated to the geeky, the easily entertained the cubicle slaves that we all know and love.
You can buy your favorite geek a cubicle doorbell, a plushy microbe or even USB powered doodads. You don't have to know what it is. Really, if it's shiny lights up, spins around or just seems cool your gift will be a success. The whole idea of many of these things is to relieve some of the boredom that comes along with most of our day jobs.
Now you might be wondering who actually needs any of this crap? Does anyone really need a walking robot pencil sharpener? Does anyone really need a USB powered mug warmer? Honestly probably not. But for the safety and the sanity of non-geeks everywhere, keep your geeks entertained.
Whether it's donating a USB mini rocket launcher to your IT department, or giving your roommate a case of energy drinks, a new gaming keyboard then heading for the hills, keeping geeks entertained isn't only easy but it's fun. Not only is it easy, and often cheap but who else will fix your computer when you call in a panic at 2 in the morning because you just deleted a .dll file and don't know what to do?
Now if you can't afford to buy geek toys it's very easy to find them. Try a search on Lolbots then send the links you find to friends. I promise you won't be disappointed. Or sit with your geek and make some kind of miniature catapult out of paper clips, rubber bands and a half a piece of gum. Spend some time with your favorite geek, laugh do something silly.
My point here is that we all need a laugh now and then and whether you're watching funny videos, playing with plushy Cthulhu or having a paperclip war at the office. Life is way too short to be so serious and so bored. Entertain yourself and entertain your geek.
