I'm a multitasker. I've been doing a ton of photo editing, web surfing, code editing - I'm never happy just having one application open at a time. One of the features I like about the GUI's in most Linux distributions, is that you are given four desktops to move amongst, simply by clicking on a square in the corner of the screen. Microsoft released a program in 2002 to give the same functionality to Windows XP. It's one of their "Power Toys", and it is a good one. You basically get four separate desktops instead of one. You may want to surf the web in one desktop, use another for work, and a third to keep an email app open. If you use a laptop with a smallish screen like I do, the items on your taskbar can quickly stack up all the way across the page, and that's just a mess. Here's the interface: You simply click on the desktop you'd like to view, 1-4. If you click on the green circle, you will get a preview of each desktop, then you can click on which one you want to use. Download the desktop manager from Microsoft here. (Look for the download links on the right side of the page.)
